I am trying to get an XP Pro machine to browse to itself when it is the only machine in it's workgroup. Does anyone have a consistent way to do this? Any help woudl be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Sure. Looking back, the question is a bit vague. I have a single XP pro machine and I am trying to get it to see itself under My network Places. Going through entire network\microsoft windows network\workgroup, when you try and expand workgroup, you get a hang and usually a 'network is not accessable' message. I'm trying to find a way to view that lone machine in My Network Places. I have an application which requires browsing to a shared folder by going through my network places and on single machines, well, we get this problem. Hope this is a bit more specific, and thanks for your assistance.
There is a shared resource, and there is a workgroup assignment for the machine. The application I am using needs to browse to a shared file on the machine, the only one in the 'network', or 'workgroup'. When you go to browse in the application, it opens up an explorer type box which allows for you to browse down the network ladder, entire network\microsoft windows network\workgroup\computer\share. The prob is that with only one machine, you hit a wall once you get to workgroup. I cannot use a command prompt for this browse.
