xp boot stopping 2

XP 2000 stops for 3 minutes when booting up, nothing shows in the log to indicate what is holding it. There is no activity at all just a long wait. It then starts again and works well once over this hitch.

I had the same problem. What I did to solve it was as follows :
Goto C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch

and delete all the items there.

Try using Microsoft's BootVis program to analyze your boot times. It should show you just where in the boot process things are slowing down.
