A xp laptop with ntfs. On the boot, I get the following error: A disk read error occurred ctrl alt del to reboot.

Reboot takes me back to the same error. I need to atleast copy off some files.

Any help would be appreciated

Have you tried "safe mode" to get your files?

If you have the original XP cd, do a repair setup. (Boot from the CDROM). Hopefully this will get you going again. ~Apex1x

safe mode gives me the same error. Recovery will not work because I use sysprep, when you use sysprep it will not accept the admin password. A flaw.

It appears that I am looking at 3rd party software to help me out. I run sysprep on over 600 laptops.

Thanks

If linney's excellent link doesn't sort you, is it worth trying a repair reinstall? (leaves data & settings)
