Hello,

I am currently running Win 2k (sp3) and WinXP pro (sp1) on a dual boot system. I wanted to change Win2k to Win2k Server. My question is do I have to format my HDD and begin from scratch or can I just format the Win2k partition and install it there???

Thanks

when you restart with the win2k server cd in it should ask which partition to install on, just select your win 2000 partition. if this isnt the case just keep pressing escape till you reboot and your win2k will be untouched.

okay so I leave the Win2k partition alone and the setup for server will automatically format or install over the Win2k files???

And will the boot manager w/ XP detect the change to Win2k Server after I install it???

After 2k server is installed (I'm presuming 2k pro is currently on 1st partition), you'll need to reinstate the XP versions of the boot sector files, ntldr & ntdetect.com in the root of C: (otherwise XP won't boot). You can do this by saving them elsewhere before installing server & replacing them (after logging onto 2k server) afterwards (they're also on the XP install CD in \i386).
You'll probably also need to edit out the win2k pro entry in boot.ini.
