xmlhttp objects

I'm slightly confused as to all the xmlhttp objects and terms
such as
MSXML
Microsoft.XMLHTTP
MSXML2.XMLHTTP.3.0
MSXML2.XMLHTTP.4.0
MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP
Msxml2.ServerXMLHTTP

Can you give me more info or point me in the right direction.
what's the difference between all these objects! which one should I use, how do I know which one to use etc, and why are
Microsoft.XMLHTTP and MSXML2.XMLHTTP.3.0 written so differently.
