Hi

we want to be able to import data from Overseas partner directly into our system. An XML file will be emailed to my company on a daily basis.

Problem is their edi file format is in XML and our system only accepts CSV.

Is their a tool available which can convert the XML file into a usable CSV file, without much end user intervention, when file is received?

The idea then is for the end user to import this file directly into the system.

Hi unslog,

The fastest and most natural approach is to use an XSL style sheet to convert the XML data into CSV format.

If you've not used XSL before then I'm sure you'd find it pretty easy to pick-up. Part of my job is to train people to use XSL to convert EDI and XML files into text, CSV, HTML or other EDI and XML formats. After a day and a half, most people are quite comfortable with the way it all works and go on to do pretty useful things with it without needing too much support.

One big advantage of XSL as a transformation language is that with the right tool behind it the whole process can be fully automated with the XML being picked up from a pre-defined folder and the CSV being output to another folder (or e-mail address or program).

XSL is also enormously powerful and you can build some pretty complex logic into the processing when the occasion demands.

Let me know if you want more info.
