xml symbols not displaying in flash

I have a txt file which is displaying fine inside a flash file, however, the + and % symbols do not display - is there a way to show symbols like these inside the txt file? Also, the & sign does not display either. I have scoured the web but have had no luck getting these symbols to display. Anyone got a tip on how to fix this?

some characters (like %, +, and &) are used within computers for certain functions. When you try to use such characters in a text document, and the document gets parsed, these characters tend to either create an error or get skipped

instead, you have to use "escaped" characters. each character has a code (which has the form { or &abc that you can use in place of your symbol. heres a table with a list of all the escaped characters:

for example say this text

"have 45% greater looking hair & skin!"

change it to:

"have 45% greater looking hair & skin!"

just make sure your textboxes in flash have "Render text as HTML" checked!

It doesn't allow me to use the & symbol either - when I put the & character in everything after that character does not display.
