XML Style Sheet Data extraction

I am interested in creating a style sheet in XML that will have the capability to extract the peices of the entered text from the style sheets (that come in as weekly updates), and compile them in a new document. I am familiar with XML for web design and creating schema's, but would appreciate guidance in creating a style sheet with this capability, and what steps do i need to take to make this practical. Thank you for all your advice and help.

xsl is a simple(ish) language to learn, but very powerful, xpath is the selection script for xml elements / attributes, and can be tricky - but also very powerful.
