XML Schemas and Namespaces

Hi everyone,

I have been wrestling with XML namespaces... Why do XML schemas require namesspaces? What do they do?

But most importantly... How can I include a valid working namespace? Do I have to define one?

Because the standard (actually W3C recommendation) states that XSD offers "facilities for describing the structure and constraining the contents of XML 1.0 documents,
including those which exploit the XML Namespace facility. The schema language, which is itself represented in XML 1.0 and uses namespaces, substantially reconstructs and
considerably extends the capabilities found in XML 1.0 document type definitions (DTDs)"
