XML parameter to Stored Procedure

I've a SQL stored procedure with an xml input parameter and an integer output parameter. Whenever there's a large xml input feed to the stored procedure, I get wrong output value with some large number. I've even tried not including any statment in the stored procedure and hard coded return value. But i still get some invalid large number.
I'm calling this stored procedure through VB 6.0. If I run this stored proc directly from SQL, it gives the right result.

whats datatype of the input parameter? make sure you are sending same datatype as int or change datatype as something whcih can handle large values-see ranges of teh datatypes
