Hi all,

We are expecting an XML interface to be implemented in Mercator 6.7.1 running on HPUX. As the decision of using XML is still not final, request you to please provide the following information:

Are there any known Mercator related issues of using XML as an input?
What are the pros and cons in general of using XML as input?

Thanks and Regards,
AShish Malik

Use 8.0 for XML. Since you are on UNIX, you can have both installed. XML standard has changed since 6.7.x.

I've not had any problems with 6.7.1 on windows but the type trees are a pain - wery complex and difficult to identify errors.

Depends on where the XML data originates. Some people have no problems, others see great pain.

8.0 has resolved a lot of the pain, and the trees are much simpler.

Don't have to upgrade. Since this is not in production, you would not change any of the stuff you have now. New developent could be in 8.0, the rest in the installed version.

Remember 6.7.1 doesn't support anything released after it's own release date: Database, OS, Messaging etc. software.

hi ashishmalik

We are running with 6.7.1 using XML input, I have just reported an issue which I am awaiting a patch to do with recognising tags with XML. The maps paased the input checks when they shoudl have failed.

As I said, if you want the best XML compatibility, run 8.0. :)

Unfortunatly it seems to be a big problem for IBM to send you 8.0 -- we ordered our copy in October 2005 and haven't received anything so far!

As the original poster might be stuck to 6.7.1, there are actually some caveats when processing XML. You should ask support for patches; we need at least two of them.

Contact Support now. If your maint. is up-to-date, you should get an e-mail from distribution in 24 - 48 hours. If you still don't get the files, Support will escalate the call for you.
