What are the problems of

It depends on how big your XML is, how reliable your connection is and how quick your XML parser is.

The main problem is an uppy-downy link. On the remote method, it may always fail at some point which will lead you up the garden path thinking that there is a problem with the XML.

The second problem is dodgy XML which may lead you up the garden path thinking that the link is dodgy.
