XML Document Update in Visual Studios

I have a application page that pulls a xml document. This page has a standard heading and the second part own by the xml document has a series of +-box drop down. I've made one change to the document and Now there all gone off the page. But when I reference the xml document in I can still see the data. It does'nt appear on the page anymore. Any suggestions???????
 
with which language .. vb net c# ?
with a bit of code shown .... it will be easier
