Hi

Can any one help me in writing a script which should read
the spread sheet (.xls) and insert the values into database

Thx in advance

You'd probably be better served asking this in an Excel forum, but perhaps a starting point might be to export your .xls data into a delimited file of some kind, then import the said file into your database. What database are we talking about here, as some can import .xls data directly. Cheers.

Save the excel file in "space delimited" or "tab delimited" or dbf format and then u can import this file into ur database..

check into perl's CPAN archive for a possible interface into excel files.... My guess is that there is a DBI module (part of the database interface) that you can use to do this. It'll be a lot cleaner and easier to write a conversion tool once in perl than to have to first save to cdf, then transfer to solaris, then perform some import.

Go to this link and just search using your web browsers find command for excel
