Hello,

I have a databook saving itself to CSV, the databook is only 5 lines of datas.

When I open the CSV file I have a lot of comma everywhere even if there no values (cells are completely empty execpt for those 5 lines)

It looks like this:

0021203,AllInOne,NL,EU,5M,NL,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

How can I get rid of all those commas ? Save a selection only ?

Please advise,

Ayato

Hi Ayato

you probably have formatting on empty cells. Check this by opening your workbook & pressing Ctrl-Enter. This'll make Excel jump to the outer limits of the sheet

To correct: select those empty cells & use EDIT > CLEAR > ALL

Hope this helps

Hi Nikki,

Thx it works now ...

One small problem left with the 1 line, which is a comment, I still have those commas ...

It looks like :

REPORT_TYPE=DAILY VERSION1.0,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Any idea ?

Regards,

Ayato

You need to delete the formatting on the rest of that row as well (the cells that don't have data) Rgds

xlbo's right - you must still have some formatted cells

One thing to bear in mind: Excel remembers the usedregion! After you've cleared your range & if you want to check that everything's gone, save and close, then reopen your file. Ctrl-End will then use the new UsedRange ...

I always use Ctrl-End to find the outer used ranges of a worksheet (quick & useful) - we use a lot of Excel template files to import data sent from other sites (the users are not very good at entering data consistently themselves ;-) - no offence to my users!) and one of the problems we had when moving the system to Unix/Subase was the csv conversion of our xl templates

Anyway, hope you get it fixed

Cheers
Nikki
