My file won't open - screen just flashes as the process starts and then nothing - no error messages. Is there a way to open by-passing some of the things that may prevent opening. The workbook contains a macro but not event driven. I have a back up from which I can re-create so I am not desparate.

Excel 2000, Windows 2000 professional

Thanks,

Gavin

Try opening exel then file|open|then select the down arrow on the open button and select open & repair.

Thanks for the idea. That option is not available in xl 2000.
I think I have re-created the file now so any further responses are of interest for future reference only.

Thanks,

Gavin

Hi All,
I also have the same problem. Any one have any idea to fix it?
Thanks very much for your help.

You can try to open the file using Open Office (freely downloadable). OO allows many corrupted Excel files to open, and they can then be re-saved.

Dave

Probably the only Test Analyst Manager on Tek-Tips...therefore whatever it was that went wrong, I'm to blame...

animadverto vos in Abyssus!

Take a look at Forum1393!

Hi,

try going to the Tools - Macro - Security and changing your settings to High, this will disable all macros on opening.

Cheers

Is it lunchtime yet?

alternatively, hold down SHIFT whilst opening the file - this stops any code from running

Three things are certain. Death, taxes and lost data. DPlank is to blame
