Hi.

I am plotting a stacked bar chartfor the following values:
[tt]
Rent $750.00
Food $400.00
Travel $220.00
Savings $150.00
Entertainment $200.00
Utilities $280.00[/tt]

I am trying to add Data Labels to all data points in one step. The amazing MS product let's me insert data labels for each data point one at a time only.

Frustration number 2: Some data labels tend to text wrap inside the label. I cannot resize the text-box and under alignment, "Resize shape to fit text is greyed out. So the only choice I am left with is reducing font size until the text is wrapped no more.

Anyone have a solution?

Thanks

To see all the data labels at one time, go to the Design tab and choose one of the Chart Layouts that includes data labels.

-Why use a big word when a diminutive one will do?-

Or go to the Layout tab and click Data labels

Hi, Lilliabeth.

I wish it was that simple. At least it's not for me on several different systems that have 2007 installed.

I do realize that I can only select one series at a time to format the series. Where I am having problems is that in XL 2007 selecting Data Labels only lets me select name and Value for one data point (one series really); while in XL 2003 Chart Options, Data Labels tan lets me add those things to all series.

Also, I can resize Legend box in 2003, but not in 2007.

sigh..... it really comes down to the fact that people who program the product rarely use it.

I understand the issue of formatting the data labels, but if I am reading your post correctly, you can add data labels to only one series at a time and that is not what I experience. I use either of the methods to add data labels and I get them for all the series.

I am also able to resize the legend without difficulty - just drag a handle.

Make sure you have the chart area selected, and not a data marker, when you add data labels.

Then, there is something wrong with my install and all of the College's installs that I have tried. College has various locations and I have been to two of them and the same thing happens.

Hi, I have to bump this thread since I still keep having problems.

The basic problem is this: I wish to add the Series Name and the Value as Data Labels. So, I select the chart, go to the layout tab, under Data Labels, I choose Customize.... and select Series Name and Value. Value shows up in all Elements, Series name shows up in only one. Then I have to add the series name one at a time. Quite frustrating.

Any answers?

I right clicked on the data series, and right there in the right-click menu is the option "Add Data Series". Is it available in your right-click menu?

I meant to type "Add Data Labels" in the above post, not ..."Series". Sorry for the confusion!

Ok, I was wrong. My own installation is the same as that of the college. For some strange reason, those %#&$ Data Labels don't work the way I want them to. I tried it on one my student's laptop and, magic, it works as it's supposed to.

So, now on to finding out why it doesn't work at the college (and of course, my system)

You mean "Vester artificum vita brevis"?
or "Vester artificum sugo sugere suxi suctum"
[rofl]
Never knew "sucks" would take up four words in latin.
