Hi there, i have a problem running the xinit or xclock.
When I log on as root on CDE and su to oracle I cannot run the xclock or xinit..But when i used the oracle for the first CDE login I can run xclock..what files i need to setup or any configuration i have to make..

I've tried the export DISPLAY=hostname:0.0
but same problem..

thanks..

when you did the "export DISPLAY=hostname:0" what did you put for the hostname value? Was it the IP address from which you connected or the hostname of the system you were on?

do a who am i to check the IP address you logged in on and ensure that you use that value as the display

The following line will do it for you if you want

export DISPLAY=$(who am i|awk -F"(" '{print $2}'|awk -F")" '{print $1}'):0.0

If you have been using this value already, then I don't know what the prob is

Remember to give permisions to open windows while your still owner of the display, i.e. run 'xhost +hostname' while your root.
