I looked for this file, and its not to be found on the server. Do you know if I should have it? I have redhat 6.x.

Thanx,

d

if you can´t find it in /usr/sbin/ or /etc/rc.d/init.d/ then I suppose you don´t have it.
You´ll have to settle with inetd instead. I don´t know which version or RH xinetd came with. /Sören

Hi,

xinetd is an updated equivalent of the older inetd ('internet daemon'). With RH 6.x you almost certainly have inetd instead of xinetd. The config is all in one file, i.e. /etc/inetd.conf . xinetd comes in a rpm of the same name so you should be able to see if its installed with a 'rpm -q xinetd' command.

If you really want xinetd instead of inetd you could try downloading the rh7.1 rpm :

then do (as root):

rpm -Uvh xinetd-2.1.8.9pre14-6.i386.rpm

It will soon tell you if there are any dependency issues that prevent installation.

Hope this helps, Iain
