Anyone successfully configured or know where the link is to explain this. Scenario: Running a new install of Redhat 7.1 with xinetd. I have users using both pop and imap. The pop3s stuff works fine with ssl but I can't get the imap users to get incoming mail. They are able to send email though. Any suggestions??

Hi,

Well you obviously must know how to enable the services under xinetd or pop3 wouldn't be working (e.g. /sbin/chkconfig imap on). Do a /sbin/chconfig --list to check that all relevant xinetd services have been enabled.

In your case, I'd guess that tcp/udp port 143 & possibly tcp/udp 993 (ssl) is blocked by your firewall. Enter the command 'lokkit' and configure the RH firewall accordingly.

What do your mail logs look like?
Most times there is a client side problem
with the encrypted standard not being suppo-
rted. I think it's crazy to run imap anyway
so I don't know too much 'bout it;-).

IFINCHAM: imaps is on according to chkconfig. Error message I am getting is xinetd[26219]: Bad line received from identity server at 21.21.9.6: Prior to getting ipop3s working I got the same message. I'm thinking it is the SSL certificate on the mail server for the imapd but I haven't been able to create a separate certificate. I do have one for ipop3d. But I don't know.

Hi,

This would be an error in the ident query. Sendmail 8 onwards tries to 'callback' the connected host using ident (see rfc 1413). You error would seem to be related to this. Is the ip address 21.21.9.6 yours ? If so you could just turn off the identd service under xinetd.
