Hello!

My distro is Mandrake 8.1 and the PC running on is a Pentium III 933 Mhz, 256 RAM.... but XFree86 4 doesn't run good enough...
It's veeeeeeeeeeeeery slow to refresh the screen, I don't know what's going on, it's probably I haven't tuned it alright yet...

Anyway... I wanna come back into 3.3.6 'cause my system went smoothly with that server....

The question is... how can I uninstall the XF86 4 rpms without a dependences headache...?
My distro is Mandrake 8.1

Thanks a lot Arlequín

You can use the --force option i.e. rpm -e --force *.rpm. Use at your own risk! You could also use the force option to Upgrade over your existing installation using, rpm -Uvh --force *.rpm. I'm not too hip on all the consequences of doing it this way so you may want to wait on another reply or two before doing anything.

RhythmAce,

Thanks for replying...
I think I've made a mistake... :(
Everything about X in my Linux Box is a mess...

Damn... I don't want to do it in the "MS-way".... reinstalling....

Now I don't have X anymore... no 4 version, nothing... Arlequín

uh oh... I thought you had the other version handy. If you installed from CDs thank goodness 'cuz you can reinstall all the X stuff from that. If you have to download them, you may have to use ftp in terminal mode to download them. Get your mitts on all of the RPMs and put them in one directory then issue this command: rpm -Uvh *.rpm and it should install all the packages at once. If you get the dependency error, use the --force option. I know your scared now but SUCK IT UP MAN!! You have a job to do.)

All right!

I have the MDK 8.1 CDs, and you know, there are a lot of RPMs the 4 version and the 3.3.6 version.....

Do I do what you suggested anyway? Arlequín

You should be able to run the install from the boot CD and select the upgrade option. When you are given the list of packages, choose the ones you want. It should check for the installed packages and if it doesn't find them, go ahead and install them. This is how Red Hat works and I'm thinking that Mandrake works much the same way.
