Xfree86 4.0.1 installation problems

In RH 6.0 I installed Xfree 4.0.1 over a 3.3.5 version using the Xinstall script. I got the following error:
EE ATI Bad checksum of V_BIOS
No V_BIOS found
Unable to initialise int10 interface
When I restarted. the kernel loads and within the init:
Starting X Fontserver
the system gets stuck!
How to get the system running again
