My XFree386 screen is bigger than my monitor in the resolutions 640x480 an 800x600 but normal in 1024x768!

But when I use 1024x786 everything is so tiny!

So I want to use the resolutions 640x480 or 800x600 with normal view!

PS. my monitor model: Nec Multisync 4D
my videocard model: Trident TVGA9400Cxi

Please help me!

Hi,

Is that really RH 3.1 ? That must be a pretty old version you have there..

Anyway, in theory (and often in practice) you can toggle the resolutions with ctl-alt-plus and ctl-alt-minus. However you need to comment out the 'DontZoom' directive in the /etc/X11/XF86Config file. For the resolutions themselves you need to find the 'display' section of the same file and edit out the higher resolution to leave something like :

Subsection "Display"

Depth 16

Modes "800x600" "640x480"

EndSubsection

(The above is just an example - the thing to change is the Modes line)

Otherwise, you can try to run '/usr/X11R6/bin/Xconfigurator' as root but that may not have been available in the earliest RH releases.

Hope this helps
