Xerox 8860MFP Error - Close Control Panel

Problem is driving me batty. I have Xerox 8860MFP that runs through the usual startup then posts message to "close the control panel", visual indicator shows I need to lower the MFP/scanner unit. Xerox technician tested with another replacement MFP/scanner to no avail and said the problem is in the "computer" and I need a new Electonics Module. Replaced EM module, same error. Purchased new IIL sensor which senses the scanner/ADF unit is in place, still no resolution. I can't do anything with the printer while this error is displayed. Any thoughts?
