I've installed it on test machines. Not a whole lot different than presentation server on esx3.5 or vsphere4. Still all the same components, just a bit of a new look, functionality changes, yada yada, nothing you can't figure out in a few minutes.
The test box I setup with win2k8 and xen 5 ran just fine along with all the apps we put on it. I'm actually in the midst of planning our upgrade from 2003 to x64 2008 R2 and xen 6. So far it's pretty straight forward. Only downer is it requires a full wipe and clean install to get from x86 2k3 to x64 2008, that'll be fun.
I downloaded xen 5 (and 6) and just attached it to the VM's cd of course, ran the setup. The vm had a single processor and 4GB RAM. Ran great with the few test users I put on it. When I installed the VM Tools, I kept it pretty much as default except for the shared folders - remove those, as it does funny stuff with roaming profiles.
Any particular settings that should be included during the setup? I remember back in Metaframe XP days it was recommended to have two diferent HDD' (OS/DATA) CPU/ Thin Disks / Mem reservations?
I'm probably over-thinking a really easy install. But thanks again..
Beings I did strickly test boxes, I didn't dig deep into the do's and don'ts, only what I've done with PS4 on vsphere 4. No more than two vcpu's and 4GB RAM. I always separate my citrix boxes so the OS has the C:\ pretty much to itself, every app I have is installed on separate disk/partition. Again, this ran just fine with test users.
I remember reading a few online blogs about what a guy should do to make sure the citrix box runs as best as it can, but honestly I've never had much luck with any of them. I tweaked our VM's for about a month, found a good point, removed citrix and IIS, cloned it, and stored it. It's worked great for new deployments and it's pretty much your basic install. The only time I've run into problems so far is when I try to get to many users on one box.
