What is the difference between DSL and xDSL?
Can these protocols seve multiple connections at
our site from a single line or would isdn be better?
They are the same thing. DSL is Digital Subscriber Line. The "x" refers to the seven (or more) types of xDSL:
HDSL - High-bit-rate DSL - T-1 up to 3.6km
SDSL - Symmetrical DSL - as above but operates on one twisted-pair
ADSL - Asymmetrical DSL - most commonly discussed for public subscribers Hi speed download 640k upload. Speed varies by distance.
VDSL - Very-hi-speed-bit-rate DSL - as ADSL but shorter range and much higher rates upto 51.84Mbps
RADSL - Rate-Adaptive DSL - like ADSL but uses line polling to adjust xmit speed.

xDSL offers much better rates then BRI ISDN and is cheaper than PRI lines (very generally speaking). But the further away from the central office. For the best listed rates, you'd have to be under 1000ft away!

Hope that helps...
Opps, noticed the 2nd to last sentence is incomplete. That should say:

But the further away an xDSL box is from the central office, the worse it's bit rate.

sorry 'bout that...
Thank you for the information also it helps me too, I was wondering if anyone knew of a good site that describes these service's in more detail maybe describing architecture and usage for the begginer or intermediate in mind... thank u
