Hi admin-gurus,

I tried to start a connection from a xterminal-program
on a Linux-Box to my HP-Server (D220 with text/console).
The HP Server is in Dtlogin configuration in xdm /mode
( entry in /etc/dt/config/Xconfig : Dtlogin*xdmMode: True )

When I try to connect to the HP/Box I see the root window
for a few seconds, and after that the egg timer for some seconds.
After that, the connection is interrupted. By testing the
connection with telnet and port 177 (xdmcp)I found that there is no port 177 entry in /etc/services. Even editing
the file by typing in the port 177 data didnt change the problem.

Now I ran out of ideas how to continue from here.
I would apreciate it very much any help to solve this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Fred

Follow up:

finally I solved the problem, at least as the login problem is concerned.
The Problem was, that the HP-Box was already sending the dtgreet (CDE-Loginbox) to the X-Terminal, but it could not be displayed there because of missing fonts.
The solution was to copy the required fonts from the HP-Box to the HP-Box and make a Fontpath-Entry in XF86Config to the copied fonts.
So I am able to login now, but I just get a poor window without the CDE-Desktop Environment.

Perhaps someone can help here ?
