Hi
I installed RH 7.1 on my pc. After install I was not happy with the refresh rate (headache-rate). So I ran Xconfig again, it seemed to work fine, but it stopped at this grey screen (actually very fine black/white checkered pattern), with the mouse cursor beeing an x. It seemed to be stuck there, so (beeing used to Win98) I pressed ctrl-alt-del, but when linux restarted the refresh rate was just fine. But either I did something wrong or something wrong happend, since it seems that I should come to a screen where I would be able to choose a screen resolution. The refresh rate is much higher than the highest I am able to get in Win98.
Any tips?

regards
Kjell

If U want to do it the best way, just edit the file /etc/X11/XF86Config. U can also run older tool for setting it up, easier, tahn just editing the file, xf86config. But for changing the refresh rate the best way (IMHO) is editing the XF86Config file. Use man and XFree docs to understand it ;-)

Hi,

On the prior post - please note that the config file from XFree86 4.x.x onwards is actually XF86Config-4 . For redhat the best X configuration utility is Xconfigurator . Incidentally, if you have defined multiple resolutions you shoukld be able to toggle them with ctl-alt-+ (control alt plus) and ctl-alt-- (control alt minus).
