Hello everyone!

I stumbled upon various posts that mention ACCPAC's
xAPI interface, which sounds very interesting to me...
except that I've never heard of it before and I
can't seem to find anything about it on the ACCPAC
website.

I run a small manufacturing company where we currently
use ACCPAC 7.2 EE. We started with DOS SBT back in
1996 and I've since written various VB 6 & MS-Access
apps that get at the ACCPAC data via ODBC and OLEDB,
but I have to figure out the business logic myself.
From what I can tell the xAPI may make this a lot
easier for me.

So, where do I get xAPI? ACCPAC or a third party? Also,
does it support the 7.X version of ACCPAC?

Thanks very much for the help!

First off the ACCPAC xAPI is for ACCPAC for windows. I don't believe that it will work for DOS.

Second, It is freely distributed with all ACCPAC for windows and is a dll (a4wcomm.dll) that allows you access, via VB or VBA (macro) code, to the ACCPAC views and business logic. This dll allows you access to your ACCPAC data, using the same views as ACCPAC, from outside of the ACCPAC program. It also ensures that you follow the ACCPAC business logic and ensure data integrity.

We are currently using ACCPAC Pro Series 7.2 Enterprise Edition - which _is_ a windows version. Sorry to confuse with the mention of DOS - I was just pointing out that I'm a long time ACCPAC customer and I've never heard of xAPI.

But I still cannot find it anywhere in my system. And I think maybe I know why... we're using what used to be known as SBT Pro Series, before SBT was bought up by ACCPAC. I suspect that the xAPI is not available for Pro Series, and is specific to ACCPAC's original products.

If I'm wrong, and I should have xAPI with my Pro Series setup, then please tell me where to find it, because searches for the DLL, or, info about it on the ACCPAC web site have come up empty.

Thanks again!

The xAPI dll is found in the ACCPAC/Runtime folder. It is automatically installed with ACCPAC. You can try searching for its original name (ACCPACXAPI.DLL).

I believe that it only comes with ACCPAC 4.x (for windows)and higher.

As you mentioned, ACCPAC Pro is only an ACCPAC product by name and not design so I think that you may be out of luck.

ACCPAC Pro Series is written in Microsoft Visual Fox Pro, the best and most powerful relational database out there, therefore it may do what you already want to accomplish.
