Hi!
I am hoping to buy Corel Draw X3 upgrade for my pc. I own an original copy of Corel version 6 OEM. Does this entitle me to buy an upgrade? In practice, you can't install any upgrade on v. 6 because it doesn't even run on Win XP, but is it legal and correct to buy an upgrade on such an old version and would the upgrade work on v. 12 of which I have a running copy?

Thanks to all the community!

OEM versions ARE upgradable - I did this with Version 9. However, there was a limit going backwards with release 11 or 12, in that the oldest version that qualified for upgrade was version 9. So with version 6, I would believe you are pretty much stuck. I must admit that I haven't purchased an upgrade since v.11 and at the time, it asked for the original S/N on the product being upgraded (this might be where the version 9 limitiation came in - it might have been OEM limited, regular "retail" versions might go back further). They may have done away with this requirement, let us know what you find out if you purchase the upgrade.

I am not sure if this ever got resolved, but I got an email from Corel today stating for the enxt 5 days, that the upgrade will work for ANY version of Corel Draw - from the email:
Code:
If you own:

? CorelDRAW® or CorelDRAW® Graphics Suite (any version)
? Adobe® Photoshop CS, Adobe® Illustrator or Adobe® InDesign
? Macromedia® Dreamweaver
? Macromedia® FreeHand
? ACDsee™ Canvas
? QuarkXpress®
? MS® Publisher or MS® Visio
? Corel® Painter or Corel® Picture Publisher
? Micrografx® Designer, iGrafx Business or Graphics Suite

So my guess is that they are not issuing any new releases for this 5 day period, so it stands to reason that this will work retro-actively with any prior Corel Version. ANyway, I thought of this thread when I read this email this morning, so I figured I would check back in incase anyone else reads this.

The only caveat I can think that may make this untrue, is if they are releasing the Stand-alone version at slightly less than the upgrade price. This is possible, and may require proof of prior license key upon ordering.

But this all is pure speculation, so this post may offer no help whatsover - lol
