I set sshd_config as follows ;

X11Forwarding yes
X11DisplayOffset 10
X11UseLocalhost yes

I set my putty client to "Enable X11 Forwarding", and display location as "localhost:10.0". Authentication protocol set to MIT-Magic-Cookie-1.

I login to the server, but no Xauthority file is created, nor is the DISPLAY variable set.

X apps then fail to start, as their unable to open the display.

I do the exact same steps above on various AIX 5.3 servers, and it works fine.

Any idea's why this isnt working for AIX 5.2 ?

yes, sshd stopped and started, no joy ! :(

Check for /etc/ssh/sshrc or $HOME/.ssh/rc on the server.

When either of these exists, xauth is not called automatically. If one exists, check the sshd man page to see how to make sure they set up X11 forwarding for you.

Ok, i found a resolution.

There is an optional config parameter in sshd_config called XAuthLocation.

I set this to the location of xauth /usr/lpp/X11/bin/xauth, restarted sshd.

Now when logging in, the Xauthority file is created, DISPLAY set to localhost:10.0 and i can run X apps ok.

Strange that i dont need to set this on AIX 5.3 though.
