X windows Respawns after install will not come up

After an install of Mandrake with a Riva TNT 128 Video Card when X goes to start it comes back with the error message that x is respawning to fast and will be disabled for 5 minutes , it continues to do this. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Assuming thats gdm (gnome display manager), you could try doing (as root) :

# init 3
# rm /var/run/gdm.pid
# init 5

Also look for any odd 'X' files under /tmp . You can probably delete anything there and X will recreate as required.

Thanks again that really helped out alot. But I had other problems that I just couldn't over come so I switched to Red Hat 7.1 and boy what a difference. Everything work now . Anyway thanks for all your help.
