Hello,
I have a P133 system with Slackware 7.0 installed on it. I have the X config file set up right, but when I run the server for my card (S3) I get a double screen image, one half of the screen if overlayed by a mirror of the other half. If I run the VGA server is it fine. I have tried all sorts of window mangers and that doesn't change anything. My chipset is listed and I am using the correct values for all of my hardwear. What could be the problem?

Thanks
Erik

Actually, the SVGA server is better than the S3 one, so use that instead. I had a few similar problems with the S3 as well, but they went away when I used the SVGA server and there is no degradation in performance.
REH
hawkdogg@crosswinds.net
<a href= by Linux
Learn Linux and Leave out the Windows :)

I tried the SVGA server and got an error saying something about not having enough memory to run the virutal desktop. The card has 1 mb of video ram and the computer has 32mb of ram with a 150mb swap space, is the SVGA server just not configured right?

Thanks
Erik

Check your colour depth and screen size for the memory error. With 1M of video RAM you probably want to stay with 640X480 or 800X600 and a colour depth of 8.

The overlay can also be due to the wrong Hor.Sync. - check your monitors manual for the correct values.
Michael Regan
mregan@bccs-ca.com
<a href= Cat Computer Systems
Black Cat Computer Systems build Linux servers and work
Ok I did that but the taskbar thing and the system status bar that starts up have lines going accross the screen and vertically through it. The Hor. Sync I know is right, I've checked it from the manuel and I selected on option that is a little conservative for my monitor. The screen is still mirrored however now it seems to take up 3/4 of the screen instead of just one half. If it helps the computer is a PS/2 77i and has a pentium 133 in it. The video chip is a S3 928 chip.

Erik
