I had RH 7.1 on my 20GB HD, and wanted to upgrade to 7.2 but RH 7.2 could not automatically config (X window, vidio card, XF86Config or whatever windows emulator, that's behind the GUI) The failure I was having right after the upgrade was After resetting the system it would only boot up to CLI, complaning abut the ETHO and WINE , I check /etc/inittab, it was set up to runlevel 5 I type startx at the CLI pronmt: ] and it complain about some X11 and XF86Config rpms so I put the CD back on and did
rpm -Fvh --replacepdgs XFree86*.rpm but the problem will not go away I also use XConfigurator and XConfigurator with no luck.so i reinstalled RH 7.1 and right away everything was back to normal, so my question is can i save some file from 7.1 to a flappy upgrade to 7.2 and then replace that file (with the right configuratin) or should i create another partition and have both 7.1 and 7.2 on the same system which I don't mind, since I only need the OS because I want to learn more about it, any suggestions are more than welcome

I'm not sure enought. you want to boot to cli and after it start X with startx? use runlevel 3 in inittab.

No, I don't want to boot up into level 3, i want it to automatically boot up into level 5, but i get the above error message,

Hi,

I can recall at least one bug in the 7.2 installer related to nvidia cards - there may be more.

You could try to manually upgrade the XFree86 rpms with the latest updates from here --> . If you do that successfully on 7.1 then, in theory, the 7.2 install should not need to change anything it that area.

Hope this helps

You're right I do have an nvidia card in my system So can i download the XFree86 rpms to a floppy and from the floppy do the upgrade?
