Hello.

I've planned to travel a lot to both big cities and remote
country side and I'm just wondering what could be the most robust
and affordable solutions to be able to edit/update web pages
(design & programming) from anywhere in the world.
I own a Fujitsu laptop, but I'm afraid such trips would be too tough for it.
Concerning the internet connection any idea would be welcome.

Thanks a lot!

Are you planning to sell webpages to people, or just update your own.

Here is a bunch of stuff that I would find very useful for freelance work around the globe.

If you want something thats durable, and compact, I'd check out the Panasonic laptop, I think (can't quite remember) it has a cell phone built into it, so you can have cellular internet, where-ever you are. And it is up to date, with all the latest and greatest. Your Fujitsu laptop will be fine too, but you will have to get some kind of ISP that is all over the world, so you can plug in anywhere and access the net. I think compuserve is like that. You'll want to make sure you have only minimum stuff on your computer, and you'll probably want a burner so you can make back-ups as you go, as to keep hard-drive space as free as possible. Be prepared to make any kind of website. Have programs such as flash, an html editor (like dreamweaver) or notepad if you know the code, both netscape and msie, you'll want all the plugins for video and sound (shockwave plugin, flash plugin, quicktime plugin, direct x), and you'll want some kind of photoeditor. I would highly recommend Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. These things can add up, so I know it's not that affordable, but people have a way of acquiring things these days. (I'm not mentioning any, you can figure it out, and I'm not suggesting you do it.);-)

Hope this helps you out. [deejay]

Thank for your response.

I'm full concerning software and I'm very serious
about disk space management.
The hardware is the problem I'm facing though I've
already brought the "beast" to Japan but I always
was in big cities.
It may become wilder next time.

Thanks for your comment.
I'll search for info about compuserve.

Oh what a shame. I hate AOL, it is not as friendly as they say it is. My relatives used Computserve to log in wherever they travelled in the world. There should be another company like this though. [deejay]

Hi mate,

It was actually a client that made me aware of this.. They were told the cs.com would be removed and gave two months notice.

The users were virtually told they either have to pay a hike in prices or go elsewhere.

I had a quick look on the Compuserve forum on their website and there are a lot of very unhappy customers..

Hope this helps Wullie

Hello.

Thanks for your response but I see that the
topic is becoming slightly different from what it
was at the begining. :)

See you.

one solution is to use database connected web sites with php/mysql and set dates on wich things happen on the site. You can also have an administration page where you would have the ability to add/replace/delete new content. You can code all this yourself if you learn PHP. search phptriad you might like it :) Gary Haran

Hello Gary,

Actually, I'm used to do PHP programming and
I don't plan to do only maintenance of already
existing websites. I may have to design&code new
websites from scratch.
Getting online from anywhere in the world is
the difficulty number one. A dream-like solution
would be a satellite mobile phone !!!

Heard of cyber cafes

This is a directory of cyber cafes around the world

I searched for my hometown city (Pune, India) and it gave me atleast 10 cybercafes

pay and access when you want and how much you want. better than any global internet access by 1 ISP Ranjan
I earn because I learn
