I recently got given an x series 346 and noticed the drive controller for the 6 drives at the front looked to be a sas connection, can anyone confirm this, and if it is possible to but a sas to sata adaptor ?

Everything I can find on the standard load out was a ultra scsi 320, not sas or sata. With out the machine type and model we can't look up much to help you. X series 346 is not the model machine type. look for a small tag it will have XXXX-xxx the first 4 are the machine type, i.e. 8840, the next 3 are the model number i.e. CTO( config to order) Along with the serial number under it, one could go to IBM Portal website and it will tell you everything the machine shipped from the plant with. This may or may not have everything listed that was installed by a value added reseller. Another thing to help out would be to get the FRU# of the HBA and the Back Plane, so we would know exactly what you are seeing in the machine.
