Hi There,
When a user logs onto a w2k pro machine, he has a red x on all the mapped network drives (normally 4 mapped netwok drives at startup). When he tries to use them he first gets a message saying it is not available but on the second try the x disapears and he can then work normally on the mapped drive. He's got full access to some of the drives and he is local admin on the PC. When logging on as domain admin, I don't get any of the problems.

Thanx for the help.

Windows 2000 is set up that way. The X should appear on everyones machine when they first start or log onto the machine. It just means is that there is not and active connection to the mapped or remote drive. Mircosoft has created this in an effort to reduce network traffic and collisions within the swithces and hubs. After windows is fully logged on the individual should be able to access it and then the x should go away until they log off or shut down.

HMAN

Another note on this, according to some posting on google discussion groups is that it is cause by W2K in combination with the NEtwork card settings. This will only cause a problem if the Wake-On-LAN setting is set on the NIC. I disabled it and so far I haven't seen any red crosses on them.
