X does not read my flopy drive and does not shut down normally! 1

I just installed XP-pro and it has been working great! Recently I installed new floopy disk and XP does not read it. I don't know why??? Also just couple of days ago! my computer does not shut down normally(I have to shut it from the power button) I have know idea what is goint on!

Any help will appriciated.

are you sure the cable is attached properly. The floppy cable is backwards from a hd/cdrom cable.

the red stripe goes to the other side.

The red stripe is always to be aligned with PIN #1
