Hi,

We are working on a new open source XHTML web editor, not WYSIWYG, but WYSIWYM (What You See Is What You Mean) : WYM editor.

WYM editor's main concept is to leave details of the document's visual layout, and to concentrate on its structure and meaning, while trying to give the user as much comfort as possible.

The concept is similar to XStandard (which is unfortunately closed source and not free).

Project page : SourceForge
Website : WYM editor

Comments, suggestions, help are very welcome !

The following statement would have saved me some effort:
Due to it's early stage of development, WYM editor currently only works with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5+, on Windows platforms.
Looks promising - certainly the interface looks professional :) I'll wait until it is a little more "browser independent" before giving it a go, though.

Cheers,
Jeff

Thanks for your feedback, Jeff.
Well, the current version (0.1) is a proof of concept : our purpose is to present a new way to edit HTML documents with a web-based editor, while trying to conform to W3C specifications.
Browser independence is the next step (we plan to support at least Mozilla/Firefox/MSIE).

I really like the concenpt - as I said. I think getting people to focus on the structure is going to really benefit future web projects... and offering the tool with an easy-to-use interface will be what really gets people using it.

I can imagine a preview feature where people can also paste in their CSS definitions and see the finished product "live" so to speak.

I'll be keeping an eye on the project nonetheless [smile]

Cheers,
Jeff

Bravo! I'll be looking forward to using this once more browsers are supported.

Please post back when more browsers are supported!
