I am using an hp 4630 laptop with RH9(no GUI) trying to use wvdial to connect to earthlink. When trying wvdial I get errors. When I listen in on another phone I hear the dialtone and then a click and then a second click a couple
seconds later. I dont hear any dialing or anything
otherwise, just a dialtone.

thanks for any help

looks suspicious, but I don't think, that's the reason for your errors.

What kernel do you use? A 2.4.x or a 2.6.y one? I'm using hsfmc97via and it works quiet fine with the 2.4-kernel, but the new driver for 2.6 kernel doesn't.

Have a look at the linuxant-web page (google:linuxant), they have a faq-list. But backup your old hsf-modem before installing their new driver, because the new driver is limited to 14.400 bps in the costless version - they now sell their driver and don't support old ones.
