WSUS will it update even if Outlook open?

I am thinking of creating a WSUS server, mainly to update our Office Service packs. But a lot of our users leave Excel and Outlook open. Would the update close these apps? or would it error because they will be open?

Probably will not install. Force users to log off at night and you won't have a problem. You can force the loggoff via AD Users & Computers.

Since those systems have to reboot, you can configure the Automatic download behavior, wherein once the update is complete, the system has a five minute countdown. After that point the system will reboot.

Teknoratti, I don't follow your thought process here. The automatic reboot setting applies to the action taken AFTER a patch is installed. The issue at hand though is that an Office SP will not install if an Office application is open.

Why wouldn't the updates install. The updates don't apply until after the system is rebooted.

Not so with a service pack. The SP won't install if Office files are in use.
