Folks,

My WSUS server (w2003R2) has just died on me. Clients (XP, Vista) would connect through Group Policy to the server. As this server is down will the clients try to connect through the Internet to Windows Update even though Group Policy is in place?

No. The GP will keep the settings specified until it is remove or modified.
