Afternoon All,

I am in the process of installing WSUS 3.0 on my small bus server. I have finished with the initial configuration as well as sychronized with the update server. The problem I am having is connecting client computers to the WSUS console. I followed this guide to the letter:

From my event log on my SBS I see that still no users have tried to access the WSUS server even with a manual update to the server on the client pc.

The only statement that seems to specify the connection to the WSUS from gpo is
"To redirect Automatic Updates to a WSUS server

1. In Group Policy Object Editor, expand Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand Windows Components, and then click Windows Update.

2. In the details pane, click Specify Intranet Microsoft update service location.

3. Click Enabled and type the HTTP(S) URL of the same WSUS server in the Set the intranet update service for detecting updates box and in the Set the intranet statistics server box. For example, type http(s)://servername in both boxes."

Any ideas would be appreciated
Antony

Does gpresult show the policy in effect? Is the WSUS console showing any computers under Unassigned Computers?

Sometimes a gpo can take a frustratingly long time to take effect. Have you tried a gpudate /force?

I don't use SBS myself but isn't there a default website associated to the administration of the server? Wouldn't this conflict with WSUS since it is sharing the same ports (80/443)

No, WSUS does not conflict with the default website. It does hook in to it, but doesn't "bother" it.

I just built one, but not on SBS either.

MS does have a separate white paper for installing WSUS 3.0 on SBS. Don't know what the difference is (if any) but you might give it a look:

Anything in the event logs??

SBS installs use the port 8530 by default so try targeting to
You can double check this by IIS Admin and seeing what port the IIS is on.

We set these up on SBS client servers pretty commonly, the reson for the default custom port is because of sharepoint conflicts (I believe)
