Previously, I had an issue with imaged servers not showing up in the WSUS management consol. I recently found some posts on it and I changed the SusClientID on all of the machines. It worked great for 4 out of 7 of the machines, but I am still having issues on 3. They are receiving new SusClientIDs but still not showing up in WSUS. Nothing in the event logs. Any ideas?

Does this help at all:

I've not done any work with imaged Servers, but I have recently had problems with Servers that were trying to update from our old WSUS Server - even though checking in, they won't update, because they were still trying to install a bunch of updates from the old server - won't update to the new WSUS Server until the updates are installed - won't install updates because the old server has gone!!

On Client (Server): net stop "automatic updates" (if 2003), net stop "windows updates" if 2008, delete contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, 'net start [...]' [the above service] (in 2008 you might have to 'Disable' the service after stopping it, as it seems to restart itself...

This will re-create the SoftwareDistribution subfolders, including the SelfUpdate 'stuff'.

Then run a 'wuauclt /detectnow' from cmd prompt.
There is also a 'wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow' which you might have to run - this generates the new SUSClientID's and things - but I think you have to delete the existing keys in the registry first - its all in the doc in the link above.

Good luck!

Thanks, Mark
