Hi there, I was wondering if you can help me. We are running WSUS 2.0 SP1 on a Windows 2003 Server. Our workstations are a mix of XP and 2000 Pro. When workstations pickup the wsus updates, the yellow shield appears as expected. But the problem is, a lot of users dont click on the shield to install the updates. Anyone know any way we can force the updates to install and bypass the "yellow shield" ??

Any help / comments appreciated.

Mike,

If you are pushing the updates out manually, either randomly or on a schedule, there is an option to set a deadline for updates to install. I use policies and client based targeting for my updates. However, with a desktop deployment this may not be desirable.

Hi there,thanks for your responses.

The updates are pushed out via GPO and I have been testing with the Deadline utility, problem is that it forces a reboot of the workstation which could be a problem. What we want is a situation where the updates are "pulled" from the WSUS server by the workstation and installed automatically, with the user being prompted to restart.

You can set the No Auto-restart for Scheduled Automatic Update Installation Options to stop the client rebooting.

When you are the IT director, it's your job to make sure the IT works. If it does work they know already and if it doesn't, they don't want to hear your pathetic excuses.
