Hi,

I have come across this problem in WSS on a number of occasions and wanted to see if I'm the only one!

I have created a list which I want users to be able to submit to, but they shouldnt have any other control of the list. I have gone into the 'modify settings' option of the list and changed the permission to: 'View, insert, edit, delete items' for all users.

However, users cant add to the list, they can only view! In order for them to be able to add, they require the 'manage list' permission too, which is something I dont want them to have. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know of a fix?

Thanks

Hello,

Under Modify Settings and Columns, Change General Settings. Under the heading item-level permission what is set there when it comes to Edit-access? The Manage list rights is set by default only to Web Designers and Administrators.

The default contributor sitegroup have view, insert, edit, delete items, and I have never had any problems having that group to submit things into a list.

So check the item-level permissions. I could try and replicate what you have done in one of my environment and see if I get the same result. What kind of lists have you created?

Regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Thanks to for your advice. Subsquent to posting my initial query, I had more of a play around with the list I had created. It seems that in the Change General Settings, under item level permission, you can select any option except for 'None' if you want contributors to sumbit to your list (even if you dont want people to be able to edit items).

However, if you then go up a level on click on the 'Change permissions for this list' and go to advanced, you can then give access to a group of users but change the options so they can not edit.

It is a slightly clumsy process but it works...:)
