Hi, all. I'm new to this sbs 2k3 stuff, and am muddling through it with the help of the Net and three really big books...
My questions are:
1. I have a stand alone version of SQL Server 2005 / Visual Studio Standard that I got free at a MS event. I installed it on the server, but now I get errors that services related to these products are not running and normally should be. I also cannot do the updates on these for some reason. I didn't purchase the Premium edition of SBS because I thought it would be a waste to pay for SQL Server when I already had it.
2. I can't get the sharepoint sites to work. The network is working, and I can sit at a computer and log into the server and connect to the internet via the server, but I can't do that thing where it connects to the server and shows the companypage Web site. The books are a little confusing on this, so I've walked away from it for a while, hoping that miraculously it would fix itself (or I would get a nice delivery of magic server fairy dust, perhaps?).
3. What are the best books anyone who has worked with SBS 2k3 standard would recommend? I do this for my parents business part time, as I have another full-time job.
4. Any reason I couldn't run ASP pages off of this server? I want to use them for our intranet (once that is running) and to update and view information in the SQL Server (once that is up and running).
Thanks to all who can give any guidance. Someday, in a perfect world, I'll have days to lock myself up with the server and figure it all out.
