WRT54GS file sharing problems

I replaced a wired linksys router and Microsoft wireless router (bridge) combination with a linksys WRT54GS wireless firewall router. I can connect to the internet, check my e-mail, see the other drives on my network. The problem comes when I attempt to access files on the network drives. The software that I use (windows explorer, frontpage, etc.) will just hang and need to be closed because they aren't responding.

Everything was working fine under the old configuration, but this piece isn't working now.

I cannot think of an issue that the WRT54GS would raise to create a different case than your original setup.

You should visit the Linksys site and upgrade the firmware if you have not done so yet.

I'm having the exact same problem - the only change made was going from the linksys wireless B-technology router to the WRT54GS thinking it would be an upgrade in speed. My computers that are networked by cable have no problem in freezing when navigating files, but my laptop which is wirelessly connected does. Nothing else about the configuration changed - and it worked beautifully before I got the WRT54GS. I've upgraded firmware, called Linksys tech support which they were absolutely the most unhelpful support ever. I just don't know what else to check. Linksys will not upgrade me to a level 2 support. Since I can get the internet fine, then they say it's an operating system issue and therefore will not even attempt to help, which really made me see red. I say it has to be the hardware as I have not changed anything in my software or operating system settings to have this happen. I hope that someone can possibly help?
