Hi,

I'm working with a remote user who connects to the main office using Nortel's Contivity VPN client Ver. 4.65.340. He's using a Linksys WRT54G Ver. 3 router with a firmware version of 4.20.7. He connects from home via broadband internet.

The problem is that when he tries to connect it simply won't work. I've tried setting the router back to factory defaults, configuring port triggering and port forwarding, I've upgraded the firmware to the above version and retried all the configs and nothing works.

We have over 2500 remote offices that connect this way and other than normal support calls, no one has issues where we can't get them reconnected via VPN except this guy. I've gone over his PC with a fine-toothed comb and he's set up just like everyone else. And he's plugged into the router, not wireless.

I should also note that a friend of his has a WRT54G Ver. 2 with the same firmware version. When he tried it from his house he couldn't connect either. They both have straight internet cable modems and VPN works when they are plugged directly into the modem.

I don't recall ever working with someone who has either v2 or v3 of this router but I tried it from my home with a v5 and it worked. Has anyone had this experience or heard of it?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I too am working on a simular project I have two WRT54G's one unit is connected on a DSL line and is running ver 2 and is working fine the other is connected to cable running version 5
and will not functioning at all as far as VPN on the client
side. As far as running as a VPN server both will function fine I have made several attempts to contact Cisco but they are not understanting that I am having difficulties with version 5 client side VPN'ing. If anyone has any idea please feel free to to post here. So I can put this "nightmare" to bed.

Try turning off the "Stateful Firewall" on the VPN client.
