I live in an apt and the WRT54G is on one end, and my kid's computer with a Linksys WMP54G wireless NIC is on the other end, diagnol. There are 3 walls in the way (concrete) and the distance is about 35-40 feet.
The problem is that at least once a day if not more, the wireless connection drops out and we get the error "no wireless connection available"
When it does work, the signal strength is from low (5-11Mbps) to good (20-36Mbps) all the way to strong (50Mbps).
Now what I have noticed is that the card also sees 3 other networks besides mine, one of which is "NESPOT", which is a wireless network used by the local cellphone company to run their phone network. I assume the other ones are other users within my apt complex with wireless networks such as mine. Every now and then the computer will try to latch on to the NESPOT network but of course it doesn't work.
I'm wondering if the wireless computer is simply too far away from the router to maintain a good constant signal. I don't understand though why one minute I have a good signal showing 36Mbps then one minute later there's no connection available and I have to fiddle with it to get it back up. By fiddle I mean change channels, move the antennas around, whatever it takes to get back.
If it is a range issue, is there anything I can do or get to boost the signal from one end of the apt to the other? I got this wirelss to avoid running UTP all over the place.
And yes, I have the latest firmware for the router.

Thanks
